Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
(EAP)
EAP is a partnership between a licensed psychotherapist or counselor, a
horse professional, horses, and the client(s). The horse helps those in
need of healing, support, change, or growth.
EAP has been studied and successfully practiced for the past 10 plus
years. It addresses many different mental health and human development
issues such as:
- Addictions
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions
- Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Horses are the key to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy because of their
sensitivity to non-verbal communication and their size. They are able to
challenge clients in a non-threatening manner and rapidly break down
defensive barriers. The horse can quickly help the client change patterns
from dysfunctional ones to successful ones.
Who can use EAP? Individuals, families, couples, and groups.
There are many services offered to individuals dealing with change or
past hurts in their lives. Empowerment Groups are offered on various topics,
which have included: grief and loss, divorce recovery, women-in-transition,
and teens. These groups are limited to small sizes to allow growth,
healing, and support to occur. Groups typically run for 6-8 weeks and cover
topics appropriate for the group. If interested, contact Pillar Ranch to
add your name to the waiting list for the next group.
In addition to Empowerment Groups, Pillar Ranch offers Personal
Development Workshops. These range from 90 minutes to 3 hours for one
session. Topics covered are communication, self-esteem and self-care,
distractions and temptations, problem-solving skills, and relationships.
Personal Development Workshops are typically offered twice a month.
